VELCRO: FOR LITTLE BABIES OR SLEPT ON FOR REAL?

VELCRO%3A+FOR+LITTLE+BABIES+OR+SLEPT+ON+FOR+REAL%3F

Velcro is a system of closing, sealing, and tightening small hooks to catch and hold but still be able to be released with some force. After the invention of Velcro in 1941, modern society has created arbitrary limitations upon where we can apply this innovative and revolutionary technology. The vain society which we live in has determined that aesthetics in shoe choice holds precedence over practical applicability. Society has been blind to the clearly superior option since the early 2000s.

The commonly accepted “lace method” of tightening shoes has no logical justification for existing. It is archaic and obsolete when compared to the simplistic nature of Velcro. You can tighten your shoes without having to completely untie them or adjust them to the optimal level of tightness with minimal effort.

Laces are annoying and get ignored by many people opting to leave them untied or tucked inside their shoes. Naysayers may claim that it is not aesthetically pleasing, but I say it is a lack of effort from shoe companies. No stylish brands use Velcro because of preconceptions. They are held back by prejudice because its only acceptable application is commonly shown in shoes for children and the elderly. If we were not afraid to dream, our society could easily create nice looking shoes that are also convenient to wear.
