If you ever wanted to see a movie with a fully dressed and powerful female superhero, then this new movie might be the right option for you. On March 8, Marvel Studios brought “Captain Marvel” into cinemas. “Captain Marvel” is a new superhero movie directed by Anna Roden and produced by Ryan Fleck in and around Los Angeles. Brie Larson stars in this film as the title character alongside Samuel L. Jackson who returns as Nick Fury. The movie is set in 1995 and plays before most of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is needed for Marvel so they can include Captain Marvel into the new “Avengers: Endgame” film.

Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers or ‘Vers’ is a soldier who was trained by the high evolved Kree. After a fight in space, her spaceship breaks and she drops to Earth. Just a second before, Captain Marvel fought for safety in space and now she is on a strange planet, which still seems familiar. Captain Marvel experiences visions and dreams which point to a possible previous life on earth. Together with the young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to find out about the past and origin of herself. Then she herself in a strange world…

Flop? Positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, despite many critics said that the new Captain Marvel movie would flop. “At first I don’t even want to go in it but now I regret it,” stated 11th grader Joshua Castro.

Captain Marvel has a cheeky attitude similar to the row of precocious superheroes like Iron Man, Starlord, Thor and Doctor Strange. But what makes Captain Marvel different from all the other heroes in the MCU is her courage. Captain Marvel worked twice as hard as most of the other superheroes to get what she is now. The role is nervy, funny and the character does not acquiesce to other people.

“Also proper respect to the great computer effects that make Nick Fury look so young,” stated Dilara Baran, a sophomore.

When Captain Marvel and Nick Fury find each other they start working against each other but after they both accept that they are playing on the same side, it is fun to watch them in a dynamic duo setting. The film is even more fun when Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, arrives on screen and steals the attention of the spectator. But in the end, Captain Marvel is a movie that is based on characters not special effects or infinity stones like in Infinity War.  The special effects are a good bonus as well as the film’s various settings.

The directors made Captain Marvel a unique character and that is their mistake. Superheroes are not perfect. For example, Thor is nothing without his hammer or Iron Man without his suit, every hero of Marvel or DC has a Achilles that makes them still a human being. In the film, the creators make Captain Marvel look like she is perfect. Instead she is a superhero that does not know about her past than she finds out about it and gets even stronger. Captain Marvel can shoot lasers out of her hands, can fly through space and is super robust, so her body can not get hurt.

All in all, “Captain Marvel” is a good production. The film is worth to go to the cinema and watch it, but it will not be the best movie of the year. “Captain Marvel” was needed for the Marvel Studios to create “Avengers: Endgame”, because Captain Marvel will play a primary role in it. Because of Captain Marvel’s strength, the hero might be the only one who can fight Thanos. This is a popular Reddit fan theory, because in Stan Lee’s comics Captain Marvel and Thanos fought many times before which shows that Captain Marvel is at least equal to Thanos. The movie is recommendable for everyone who is a big Marvel fan. In the end, the audience needs to stay in the cinema, because, as always, there is an after credit scene. For those who have not seen the previous Marvel films, then the whole plot of this movie will be difficult to understand.
