The summer of 2019 has a barrage of new movies that are leaving people marking their calendars and staring at their clocks. Past movies’ new additions are being debuted this year as well, such as the next “Toy Story” film, “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” and “Spider-Man: Far from Home.” A few remakes are also making appearances this summer, such as “Men in Black: International” and the live-action Disney films for “The Lion King” and “Aladdin”. Keep reading to see the most anticipated movies coming this summer along with their trailers.

It has been nine long years since the release of “Toy Story 3” and it is safe to say that many Disney fans have missed seeing their favorite toys on screen but this summer, everyone’s wishes will be granted. “Toy Story 4” debuts on June 21, 2019 and, as seen from the trailer, has a new toy joining the cast. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang go on a road trip with Bonnie, also known as “Andy’s replacement” and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his old friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo Peep discuss the early days, they soon start to realize that children these days may be more interested in other forms of entertainment rather than toys like them. Many critics of sequels may believe that this fourth installment to the franchise is too much, however, Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” was just as fantastic as its first movie 11 years ago, so “Toy Story 4” may be no different. After the heartbreak that was “Avengers: Endgame”, Marvel has decided to lighten the mood with a film of one of their most beloved superheroes: Spider-man, who’s played by Tom Holland. “Spider-Man: Far from Home” follows Peter Parker as he goes on a relaxing European vacation with his friends. His getaway takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury suddenly shows up in his hotel room. Peter then finds himself wearing the spider suit once again to try and stop the evil Mysterio from wreaking havoc on the city. “Spider-Man: Far from Home” will be released this summer on July 2. “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” is the next movie in the X-Men universe and will be released on June 7. This movie centers around Jean Grey as she evolves into the iconic Dark Phoenix. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of the planet. A Whole New World: Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud as Princess Jasmine and Aladdin in the film “Aladdin”. The casting for this film took over six months to find the perfect actors for these beloved characters. “I can see from the trailer that this movie is going to be so much fun and true to its original,” stated Isabella Zeppi.

The Men in Black are back this summer on June 14 but with a new twist. Rather than following Agents J and K, who are played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, “Men in Black: International” tells the story of Agent H and Agent M, who employ high-tech weaponry to battle mischievous aliens all over the Earth. Chris Hemsworth plays Agent H and Tessa Thompson plays Agent M in this humorous adaption of the classic trilogy. See the trailer here.

This summer on May 31, the breakthrough years of Elton John will be told through Dexter Fletcher’s film “Rocketman”. The film stars Taron Egerton as Elton John and will feature many of the singer’s top songs such as “Tiny Dancer”, “Rocket Man”, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and others. See the trailer here.

Two of Disney’s beloved stories will be made into live-action films two months in a row this summer: “The Lion King” and “Aladdin”. “The Lion King” is directed by the 2016 “Jungle Book” director, Jon Favreau and will be released on July 19. Some of the cast consists of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar and James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa. “Aladdin” will be released on May 24 and it is directed by “Sherlock Holmes” director, Guy Ritchie. Naomi Scott will play Princess Jasmine, Will Smith will take on the role as Genie and newcomer Mena Massoud will be playing the title character Aladdin. These movies are not even all of the films coming in 2019. “Hobbs and Shaw”, “Joker” and “John Wick: Chapter 3” are some of the other highly anticipated movies of the year. The year of 2019 is jam-packed with new films, whether they be sequels or the beginning of new franchises and calendars should definitely be marked up.
