The Varisty girls’ soccer team made it through the district semi-finals last night on Thursday Feb. 5. The Canes won 3-2 against Largo High School with a goal from defender Callista Marquette and two goals from midfielder Julia Murdoch. The girls started out strong in the first half with a score of 2-0 and then had a rocky start of the second half when Largo evened out the scoreboard 2-2. Within the last five minutes of the game, Julia Murdoch made a run down the side of the field and tapped the ball into the net and through the opposing goalie’s legs.

Yesterday’s win automatically qualifies the team to play in the regional finals, whose date still needs to be determined. However, before regionals, the team will be playing in the district finals against St. Pete High School on Friday Feb. 7 to determine their ranking for the regional game.
