Northern California Weather Alert RAIN, SNOW, And WIND GUSTS Forecasted for the Weekend

Northern California is bracing for a change in weather as a slow-moving low-pressure system hits tomorrow, bringing showers, isolated thunderstorms, and mountain snow into the weekend.

Today, the region is seeing dry and seasonable weather, with a generally bright sky punctuated by high-level clouds from the northwest.

However, things will change on Wednesday, when the system brings two waves of precipitation, largely affecting the mountains and foothills. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for elevations above 5,500 feet in the Sierra, with snowfall likely to intensify between Wednesday and Friday.

The first wave of rain will arrive Wednesday morning, with the heaviest rainfall forecast in the late morning and early afternoon.

However, the valley may receive less rain due to the Coast Range’s shadowing, with Shasta County and the foothills bearing the brunt of the impact.

The Sierra might see heavier snow along I-80, especially when pockets of heavy rain pass through. There is also a minor risk of thunderstorms.

In addition to rain, the storm will bring strong winds. Expect wind gusts of 15-35 mph in the valley and 20-45 mph in the Sierra.
