A 37-year-old Miami man is facing many criminal charges stemming from inappropriate behavior with a 12-year-old child, including sexting, Miami Police announced Friday.
Yosvany Fernandez Gonzalez was detained on Thursday by the Special Victims Unit of the Miami Police Department.
Police called him via the victim’s cellphone and urged him to visit Target at 3825 NW Seventh Court.
He is charged with lascivious conduct on a kid, transmitting harmful content to children via electronic device, forbidden computer use, meeting a youngster via computer, and four counts of child pornography.
He was held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and during his initial appearance on Friday, Judge Mindy Glazer ordered him to house arrest if he paid a $55,000 bond.
Earlier Thursday, a concerned mother went to the Miami Police South Station to report that her daughter was having graphic talks with a guy, according to the arrest record.
“This is an example of a mother that did the right thing,” Officer Mike Vega said.
“If you are under the age of 18, it is illegal to be speaking with an adult about sexual content, exchanging nude or inappropriate pictures .”
The mother told police on Wednesday that the girl wanted to go outside twice.
According to the police report, the victim’s behavior heightened her suspicions after she told her no. The mother took her phone and discovered inappropriate text chats between the victim and what appeared to be a guy, authorities said. The texts contained multiple obscene photographs and nude videos of the man and girl. Detectives confirmed that the victim’s phone contained obscene information.
A detective spoke with the victim, who stated that she went to her building’s lobby one month ago to see her father when she ran into the man, who claimed to be 27.
She provided the man her phone number, and a conversation began. The girl stated that the man “tried to meet her in person on multiple occasions but she was unable to go,” according to the police report.
Posing as the victim, a detective contacted Gonzalez and agreed to meet him at a Target. Gonzalez allegedly continued to interact by sending obscene text messages and photos.
When Gonzalez arrived at the agreed-upon place, he was detained, and his phone included pornographic photographs of the victim.
“The Miami Police Department remains dedicated to protecting children from all forms of crime and will work tirelessly to identify and bring those who prey on the young to justice,” Officer Michael Vega stated in a news statement. “As a result, if you believe you were a victim targeted by Fernandez, we encourage you to come forward.
