A two-vehicle incident resulted in an overturned vehicle, a DUI arrest, and the incarceration of a wanted guy.
According to a media release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident occurred on November 17, 2024.
At 3:36 a.m., SCSO deputies responded to reports of an auto accident at Austin Park Drive and Richmond Highway. The caller said that two automobiles, a Chevy and a Honda, were involved. The Honda was on its side, with the driver imprisoned.
A deputy arrived on the scene and immediately assisted the Chevy driver out of her vehicle and into a waiting ambulance.
A second deputy helped the Honda driver, who was aware and capable of answering questions. The victim was identified as Walter Nauhn Sanchez Amaya, 24.
Sanchez informed deputies that another man had been driving but had departed the site before their arrival. Amaya was unable to provide any information about the man he referred to as “David,” claiming he had only met him that day.
Witnesses at the site, however, agreed that there was no mystery man and that Sanchez drove the Honda.
The driver of the Chevy stated that she was driving southbound on Richmond Highway when she observed a Honda parked halfway on the shoulder and halfway in the right lane. Before she could respond, the driver of the Honda accelerated and collided with her vehicle, causing the collision.
The woman was taken to a neighboring hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
Sanchez was not injured. After deputies noticed signs of intoxication, he acknowledged to drinking three Modelo beers.
An early investigation revealed that Sanchez was wanted by the Maryland State Police on an outstanding bench warrant. He was charged with DUI and fleeing justice. He was imprisoned in Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
According to online court records, he is next scheduled to appear in Stafford County General District Court on January 23.
