Northern California Atmospheric River Weakens, Light Rain and Snow Persist in Some Areas

The powerful atmospheric river that has soaked Northern California in recent days is finally dissipating, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka.

While interior areas such as Humboldt and Lake Counties continue to receive rainfall, the worst is passed. However, isolated coastal thunderstorms and showers remain possible until Saturday morning.

Snow levels are predicted to decrease to 4,000 feet in northeast Trinity County, with higher elevations receiving 3-5 inches of snow, which might affect Highway 3 at Scott Mountain Pass. A Winter Storm Advisory is in force until Saturday afternoon.

A weaker system is expected to arrive Sunday and Monday, bringing light rain and strong winds. Following the wet spell, dry conditions are forecast by midweek, however, foggy mornings may return to the valleys.
