U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe Jr. said that a drug-trafficking investigation had resulted in a federal grand jury indictment, which led to the arrest of six individuals on a variety of crimes, including drug and firearms offenses.
According to the indictment, the suspects allegedly distributed cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and heroin, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office.
According to the announcement, agents seized more than 443 grams of narcotics containing detectable amounts of fentanyl, 68.1 grams of cocaine, and many guns.
The suspects included the following:
- Leroy Miles, 45, of Donaldsonville, was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon, and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
- Joseph Brown, 37, of Donaldsonville, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute prohibited narcotics, as well as distribution of heroin and fentanyl.
- James Miles, 47, of Donaldsonville, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute narcotic substances.
- Corey Powe, 55, of Donaldsonville, faces charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled narcotics, as well as possession of guns in furtherance of a drug trafficking felony.
- Marishell Ealem, 39, of Donaldsonville, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute prohibited narcotics, as well as distribution of heroin and fentanyl.
- Destiny Renee McBride, 35, of Donaldsonville, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, along with task force officers from the Baton Rouge Police Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales Police Department, and Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, spearheaded the investigation, with help from Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service.
According to the statement, an indictment is a grand jury’s accusation, and defendants are deemed innocent unless and unless they are found guilty at trial or by plea.
