After getting some snow around Halloween, it appeared that winter would arrive early in Northern Minnesota. However, the snow did not linger long, and despite repeated forecasts, there has been no significant snowfall since.
Meteorologists predicted last week that a storm would bring the season’s first measurable snow to Northern Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin over the weekend.
Although it’s a little later than planned, it appears that the storm is on its way, and the snow will most likely linger for the duration.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory
On Sunday morning, the National Weather Service officially issued the following Winter Weather Advisory for four Minnesota counties and one in Wisconsin:
Snow is forecast to accumulate between two and four inches, with larger amounts more likely in Brimson, Babbitt, and Ely.
WHERE: Carlton and South St. Louis, Central, and North St. Louis. Minnesota counties and Wisconsin’s Douglas County. This comprises the Fond du Lac and Bois Forte Band Tribal Lands, as well as the lands around Lake Vermilion and Nett Lake. Voyageurs National Park is one example of a recreational destination. This encompasses the western part of the Boundary Waters.
WHEN: 10 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, until 9 a.m. on Monday, November 25.
IMPACTS: Plan for slippery road conditions. The hazardous circumstances may influence the Monday morning commute.
Whatever precipitation the area receives is likely to stick, since temperatures are anticipated to dip during Thanksgiving week. Following a Thanksgiving high of 24 degrees, high temperatures in the teens are forecast until next weekend.
