A 20-year-old Florida woman was captured more than a week after reportedly fleeing after colliding with and killing a 19-year-old biker in Wimauma.
Jaquelin Velasquez has been charged with fleeing the scene of a fatal crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to a news release, the event occurred around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, November 16, on State Route 674 near 4th Street. Velasquez allegedly drove a red Dodge Charger with black rims east down the freeway. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old was headed in the same direction.
West of 4th Street, the 20-year-old reportedly overtook and collided with the bicyclist. Troopers discovered fragments of the car’s front end at the scene of the incident, according to FHP.
The 19-year-old died from his injuries at the hospital.
Troopers arrested Velasquez after receiving “an in-depth Crime Stopper tip,” the agency stated. She was apprehended on Monday, more than a week after the hit-and-run occurred.
She was booked in the Hillsborough County Jail.
