As snow fell in Oxford on Thursday morning, trees fell on a van and a residence, injuring at least one person.
Dozens of school districts reported cancellations or delays, and the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for several locations in response to the storm.
Worcester County, including Oxford, had the greatest snow, with toppled trees keeping first responders busy.
Just after 8 a.m., a toppled tree struck two passengers in a van near 286 Sutton Avenue. While one individual was able to escape the crushed van on their own, the second victim had to be cut free from the debris, according to the Oxford Fire Department.
The person, whose name has not been revealed, was brought to UMass Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Minutes later, a pine tree fell on a residence near 84 Federal Hill Road, according to fire officials.
The tree landed on a corner of the house and did not pierce the construction.
The fire department stated that hundreds of trees in town have been earmarked to be cut down.
