A Huntertown man is accused of fleeing the scene after hitting a motorcycle with his car and then preventing the woman he was on a first date with from phoning for aid.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Barry McCoy, 55, was on a first date with a woman in April when he collided with a man riding a motorbike and fled the scene, leaving the man with a back injury in the grass median. The woman called dispatchers after the crash to say she was with McCoy, but when she tried to call 911, the suspect stole her phone and drove to his house.
According to court papers, the lady claimed to have wrestled McCoy for her phone and fled to call 911 once she arrived at his residence. McCoy was no longer in the area when police arrived, but the woman recognized him from a photograph.
Investigators met with the victim, who stated that he had crushed lower fractures in his lower back, according to court filings. He rated his agony as ten out of ten and stated that he would be out of work for eight weeks following the crash.
McCoy faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving significant or serious bodily injury, as well as two misdemeanors. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday.
As of 3 p.m. Thursday, he was not in jail.
