Driver Surrenders After Fatal Motorbike Crash in East Charlotte That Killed Thomas Kardos III

The driver of a tragic motorbike crash in east Charlotte surrendered to authorities last month after warrants were issued against him.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on October 11 in the 8000 block of Lawyers Road. An early inquiry revealed that a pickup truck struck a biker, 46-year-old Thomas Kardos III.

Kardos was pronounced deceased on the scene.

On November 12, arrest warrants were obtained for Charlotte resident Angel Sanchez Medina, 28, for misdemeanor death by vehicle.

According to officers, three days later, Medina surrendered to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and was processed for arrest. He was released on Nov. 18 after being handed a $25,000 unsecured bond.

Kardos’ next of kin has been notified of his arrest.

Detectives from the Major Crash Unit, DWI Task Force, and Street Racing Task Force were all involved in the investigation.
