Central and Northern Appalachians Hit by Heavy Snowfall, 30-61 Cm Reported

Between November 20 and November 23, an early-season snowstorm slammed the Central and Northern Appalachians, dumping 30 – 61 cm (1 – 2 feet) of snow on the higher elevations of West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and northern New Jersey during three days.

In Pennsylvania, Tyrone received 63.5 cm (25 inches) of snow, Paupack received 53.3 cm (21 inches), and Bear Creek received 50.8 cm (20 inches). High Point in New Jersey also received 50.8 cm (20 inches) of snow.

In New York, Tannersville received 47.2 cm (18.6 inches) of snow, while Franklin received 43.4 cm (17.1 inches). In Virginia, Hightown received 41.9 cm (16.5 inches) of snow, while Grantsville, Maryland, received 38.4 cm (15.1 inches).

Thomas in West Virginia recorded 38.1 cm (15 inches) of snow, Roan Mountain in Tennessee recorded 20.3 cm (8 inches), and Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina recorded 17.8 cm (7 inches).
