Chevy Silverado Driver Charged After High-speed Crash Leaves One Dead, Child Injured

An Irving man is facing felony charges after being engaged in a five-vehicle accident on Friday that killed one person and critically injured another, according to the City of University Park.

Alexis Ruiz, 32, is charged with two counts of collision resulting in harm or death. The bond has been set at $50,000 for the second-degree criminal charge and $30,000 for the third-degree felony offense.

The collision near Preston Road and Lovers Lane occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Ana Gonzalez Perez, 44, of Dallas, was killed in the collision, according to a news statement issued Saturday. A kid was badly injured and sent to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he is in stable condition.

According to the announcement, a Chevy Silverado drove through a red light at high speed, colliding with a northbound car on Preston Road. The hit set off a chain reaction, causing the vehicle to collide with three more cars halted at the red light.

According to the announcement, the suspect attempted to leave but was detained briefly by a witness before being caught by University Park police in the 7100 block of Tulane.
