Two New Jersey men have been arrested on homicide charges following a 14-year-old cold case discovery.
Rondell Proctor, 22, of Arkansas, was discovered dead in Toms River Township, New Jersey, in 2010, with several gunshot wounds to the abdomen and one to the face.
His case lay cold for several years before the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office reported that two persons had been charged in his death.
Maurice Cole, 36, and Jerron Evans, 41, are currently in arrest in New Jersey and have been charged with Proctor’s killing.
On May 27, 2010, at around 12:45 a.m., Toms River Township Police Department officers responded to the Winteringham Village Apartments on Route 166 for a complaint of a shooting.
Officers discovered Proctor with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and one to the face. Proctor was taken to Community Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Toms River Township Police Department conducted an investigation that went cold for several years. However, extending the investigation and evaluating evidence that was unavailable during the first investigation resulted in the filing of charges against Cole and Evans.
On December 3, 2024, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Regional SWAT Team arrested Cole and Evans without incident.
