Four persons were killed Thursday in a horrific, head-on incident in Wilson County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 4:49 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301 at Mobley Road near Lucama.
According to authorities, two cars were involved in the incident. The state’s inquiry revealed that one car was traveling north while the other was traveling south on U.S. 301. The cars struck head-on, and one of them caught fire after contact, according to the State Highway Patrol.
According to the state, the second automobile overturned and drove off the right shoulder of the road following the impact.
Each automobile carried two persons, and all four died, according to the state. Authorities are trying to confirm their identities.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. NCDOT says U.S. Highway 301 near Mobley Road has reopened after being closed since shortly after 5 p.m.
