Dentist Accused of Murdering Wife Hit With Additional Solicitation Counts Amid Trial Chaos

Colorado prosecutors filed additional charges against a dentist accused of poisoning his wife on Friday, a day after his trial was postponed due to his attorney’s surprise withdrawal from the case.

Prosecutors announced on Friday that they had brought two solicitation counts against James Craig, one for first-degree murder and the other for first-degree perjury, KUSA reported.

Craig was scheduled to go on trial for the murder of Angela Craig on Thursday, but the trial was postponed when his counsel wanted to withdraw from the case, alleging a “professional conflict,” according to CrimeOnline. After a hearing on Thursday, the court granted the request.

The attorney, Harvey Steinberg, cited two reasons for his request, according to KUSA: “The client persists in a course of action involving the lawyer’s services that the lawyer reasonably believes is criminal or fraudulent” and the “client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement.”

No further information was shared.

Craig has previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and solicitation for tampering with physical evidence.

Angela Craig, a 43-year-old mother of six, died in March 2023 after being poisoned with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a chemical widely found in over-the-counter eye drops. The dentist allegedly purchased the cyanide, claiming his wife was suicidal and had urged him to do it.

Craig allegedly flew his orthodontic lover from Texas to Denver while his wife lay dying in the ICU.
