Thursday morning in Iowa is forecast to be bitterly cold, with wind chills reaching 15 degrees below zero in some regions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, temperatures will drop to single digits above zero overnight Wednesday.
When paired with strong winds, the “feels like” temperatures will vary from 5 degrees below zero in southern Iowa to 15 degrees below zero in northern Iowa. These are the coldest wind chills of the season thus far.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit their time outside, and take care to prevent frostbite. Winds are forecast to gradually subside throughout Thursday, with warmer weather arriving by the weekend.
Highs are expected to reach the 40s and 50s by Sunday, providing relief from the intense cold.
