Nothing is being developed for the Phone 3, but a recent revelation indicates that its internal SoC isn’t so “flagship.”
GSMArena discovered a new listing for Nothing in the Geekbench database. The gadget in question, model number “A059,” is expected to be the next Phone 3 flagship. The listing is a tad unclear, indicating that this gadget in development could launch with 8GB of RAM and Android 15.
The more important issue is its claimed chip architecture, which includes one processor and eight cores.
According to the database listing, the anticipated Phone 3 will have a single “main” core running at 2.50GHz. The rest of the arrangement consists of four 1.80GHz cores and three 2.40GHz cores. These are expected to emerge as “efficiency” and “performance” cores, respectively.
The article reports that, while the core’s name is not listed, it appears to be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC. The report also states that the anticipated Phone 3 will include a 6.5-inch OLED display. Early speculation suggests a starting price of $600, as well.
Take such reports with a grain of salt, as the magazine mentions that a “Phone 3 Pro” may join the lineup.
Rumors about the Nothing Phone 3 have been extremely rare, with the “latest” hinting at a Qualcomm model. This past summer, rumors circulated that the handset would be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The chip is a somewhat scaled-back version of the 2023 SD 8 Gen 3 flagship. It achieved 3.0GHz speeds, which were 0.3GHz slower than the higher-tier chip.
Qualcomm claims that the processor was meant to support additional on-device AI. However, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which is now reported for the Phone 3, is designed for “budget-friendly smartphones.” It is based on the midrange SD 7 Plus Gen 3 from March.
As a result, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 performs slightly slower than the flagship 8 or 8s CPUs. Nonetheless, it concentrates mainly on AI, with compatibility for numerous models including the Baichuan-7B and Llama 2.
AI is a phone feature that Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, claimed he wants to emphasize substantially with the upcoming handset. In June, Pei said that the company had begun “prototyping AI interactions.” Furthermore, it appeared that Nothing purposely delayed the Phone 3’s release to better flesh out its AI software. The corporation announced that it will not be available in 2024, pushing us into 2025 for an eventual debut.
