In a historic milestone for Broward County, Florida, Woody R. Clermont has been sworn in as the first Haitian-American male judge in the county’s history. His investiture ceremony is scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025.

Early Life and Education
Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Haitian immigrant parents, Clermont’s upbringing was steeped in cultural richness and a strong work ethic. He pursued higher education at the University of Miami School of Law, where he distinguished himself in the moot court program, securing first place with his partner, Gerald Chen-Young. Clermont was also an active member of the Black Law Students Association during his time at the university.
Professional Journey

He served as an Assistant City Attorney and Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Miami Beach from May 2022 until his judicial appointment. Prior to this role, he was a Medicaid Fair Hearing Officer with the Agency for Health Care Administration between October 2021 and April 2022. His experience also includes a tenure as a Senior Trial Court Staff Attorney in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida from January 2010 to November 2020.
In addition to his legal practice, Clermont has contributed to academia as an instructor in subjects such as quantitative methods, statistics, and economics at Miami-Dade College from June 2014 to December 2017. He also held adjunct faculty positions at Southern New Hampshire University and Key College, teaching courses ranging from administrative law to criminal procedure.
