ALBANS — In a major crackdown on drug-related crimes, the St. Albans Police Department, alongside multiple law enforcement agencies, executed two court-ordered search warrants in the early hours of Thursday, February 20.

These raids were part of an ongoing drug investigation led by the St. Albans Police Street Crimes Unit, targeting suspected drug-related activities in the area.

Locations Targeted in the Raid

The search warrants were carried out simultaneously at two locations: 6 Cedar Street and 80 South Main Street Unit #4. The operation began at approximately 2 a.m., with law enforcement officers swiftly securing the premises and conducting thorough searches for illegal substances and weapons.

Authorities reported that both locations were identified as potential hotspots for drug activity, leading to the early morning enforcement action. The operation resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of crack cocaine, among other illegal substances.

Suspects Arrested at 80 South Main Street

At the first location, 80 South Main Street, officers arrested two individuals linked to drug possession charges. The suspects were identified as 41-year-old John Lapan of St. Albans and 43-year-old Sherman Baker of Arverne, New York. A 43-year-old woman from New York was also found at the scene but was not immediately charged.

Lapan and Baker were charged with possession of crack cocaine, a serious offense under state law. Both individuals are scheduled to appear in Franklin District Court at a later date. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if additional charges may apply to others involved.

Drug Seizure at 6 Cedar Street

Simultaneously, law enforcement officers carried out a raid at 6 Cedar Street, where they encountered multiple individuals, including 39-year-old Barbara Lykens of St. Albans, a 39-year-old unidentified man from St. Albans, and two juveniles. During the search, officers discovered crack cocaine, leading to further legal actions.

Lykens was formally charged with possession of a regulated drug and is expected to appear in Franklin District Court soon. Authorities are also assessing whether any additional charges will be filed against the other individuals present at the location.
