Microsoft Issues Warning After Windows 11 Update Disrupts Gameplay in Ubisoft Games

Microsoft says it is working with Ubisoft to resolve a problem with its newest Windows 11 update that has been crashing some games, and it has paused the update’s delivery for devices running affected titles in the meantime.

Following user reports of problems after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update, Microsoft confirmed this weekend that some games may become sluggish or show a black screen.

The issue affects Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Origins, Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Ubisoft has issued a temporary update for Star Wars Outlaws, but Microsoft cautions there may still be some issues.

“To protect your Windows update experience, we have implemented a compatibility hold on devices that have these games installed,” the company stated on its support page. “These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel.”

It continues with the warning: “We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved.”
