Mississippi River Boat Tragedy Three Men Die After Dangerous Backflow Current Incident

On Sunday, a boat that was taking place underneath a wharf on the Mississippi River sank, resulting in the deaths of three persons.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the boat capsized at approximately eleven o’clock in the morning at Lock and Dam No. 12 as the three guys were fishing in a restricted area just beneath the dam.

First reports from the Department of Natural Resources indicate that the boat was dragged into potentially hazardous waters below the dam by the dam’s powerful backflow current.

Although all three guys were brought to shore, it was determined that two of them had passed away at the scene. Three more were sent to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, but they were unable to survive their stay there.

It has not yet been determined who the victims are.
