According to the National Weather Service, New Mexico is preparing for a sudden change in the weather this weekend. The state is forecast to experience isolated rain and snow showers across the southern high terrain through Saturday.
On Sunday afternoon, severe crosswinds will be caused in the east-central region of New Mexico by gusty winds topping 50 miles per hour.
A winter storm is expected to arrive early the following week, bringing with it lower temperatures and a moderate snowfall. This storm may have an influence on travel in the high terrain by the end of Monday.
There is also a possibility of freezing fog along the Sandia and Manzano mountains tonight, which will make vision more difficult. As of Wednesday morning, temperatures may be at their lowest point of the season.
Towards the end of the next week, temperatures will begin to moderate, bringing with them dry weather.
