Orange County Man Arrested in Connection With Murder of Girlfriend, Body Found Dismembered on Georgia Road

A missing persons investigation in Orange County, Florida, took a terrifying turn last month when the dismembered body of 29-year-old Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera was discovered in a suitcase on a Georgia roadway.

Her lover, 41-year-old Jorge Javier Quintero, is the primary suspect and was booked into the Orange County Jail on Monday.

The inquiry began on October 29th with a welfare check at the couple’s house in the Waterford Lakes region, following a friend receiving concerned texts from Quintero.

Deputies discovered a frightening scene, including a bloodied bathtub, a huge kitchen knife, blood-soaked garments, and what appeared to be suicide notes. Security footage captured Quintero leaving the house in a rented white pickup.

The track led investigators to another apartment complex where the pair was allegedly moving. Inside the unit, they discovered additional bloodstains and Escalante Carrera’s possessions, but not her phone.

Her phone was tracked to Seminole County, Georgia, and license plate readers captured photographs of the white truck driving in the same direction. Disturbingly, the photographs appeared to show a trash bag shaped like a human body in the truck bed.

Quintero was eventually apprehended in Alabama on October 31st, where he was severely injured in a gunfight with US Marshals.

Hours later, Escalante Carrera’s bones were discovered in a bag on a Georgia highway. She’d been strangled and dismembered.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Quintero, who was sent back to Florida for prosecution this week.
