Unseasonably warm weather continues to cover the Desert Southwest, with temperatures in the Phoenix metro projected to hit a record-breaking 82°F today, topping the previous high of 81°F in 1940.
The National Weather Service forecasts a calm weather pattern characterized by a “Rex Blocking” system, which keeps the region dry and temperatures 10 degrees higher than normal.
A minor cooling is expected midweek as an upper-level low moves eastward, bringing highs in the 70s with the possibility of isolated showers over higher terrain areas.
Gila County may experience some precipitation, but lower desert areas are likely to remain dry.
As the low settles into southern Arizona by Friday, temperatures will rise again throughout the weekend, extending the above-normal warmth into early next week.
