Southcentral Kansas Faces Foggy Morning Commute Ahead of a Cloudy Start to the Week

Southcentral Kansas Faces Foggy Morning Commute Ahead of a Cloudy Start to the Week

Today’s cloud cover has been stubbornly resistant to clearing from the state’s southcentral region. We had a little drizzle this afternoon, but it will dry off overnight.

Looking at our afternoon highs, we can see where the clouds congregated today. Western Kansas experienced more sunshine and warmer temperatures, with highs in the 60s, although central Kansas battled to reach the low 50s. A cold front is sweeping through the state tonight, bringing northerly winds and lower temperatures to start the week.

Winds continue to shift direction overnight, with a northwesterly flow taking hold. By sunrise tomorrow, low temperatures will be in the 20s to 30s.

Dense fog advisories are in effect for a vast section of southcentral Kansas until 10 a.m. Monday. Make sure your headlights are turned on as you walk out the door.

Tomorrow, more of the state will see cloud cover, with a blanket of gray overhead. Northwest Kansas will have the lowest temperatures, with highs in the low 40s, while the rest of the region will reach the 50s by afternoon.

A few scattered showers may try to break out tomorrow afternoon and evening, particularly across southwest Kansas. We could see a few flurries in the sky, but the best possibilities for snow remain on the Colorado side of the state border.

A blast of cooler air hits Tuesday night. Moisture will attempt to create a few patchy showers overnight, with snow showers likely along and north of Interstate 70. Totals will be minimal, if at all.

Highs remain in the 40s for the middle of the workweek, which is close to our seasonal average for this time of year. We do expect a warming trend to begin by next weekend, with temperatures returning to above average.

On Sunday, a front will approach the Plains, attempting to bring moisture with it. We are still determining how far west the rainfall will extend, but central and eastern Kansas may see a few showers before the start of next week.
