A southern Indiana man was taken to IU Methodist Hospital following a serious motorcycle accident on Interstate 70 in Henry County Saturday afternoon.
According to an Indiana State Police announcement, shortly before 5 p.m. on December 7, a 2025 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle ridden by 79-year-old Larry Dean Peeples of Jeffersonville abandoned the road for an unexplained reason near the State Road 3 exit in New Castle.
Officers suspect Peeples had a medical problem before the incident. The three-wheeled motorcycle drove off the road at the curve of the exit ramp, colliding with a sign before rolling into a ditch. Peeples did not wear a helmet at the time of the accident.
An ISP trooper arrived on the scene, discovered Peeples motionless, and started administering CPR until emergency personnel arrived.
Peeples was subsequently taken to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he is receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries. Police said Peeple’s condition is critical. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, according to authorities.
The I-70 exit to New Castle was stopped for approximately one hour as crews investigated and cleaned up the crash. According to ISP, the investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
