Today has been warm and above-average in Kansas. Temperatures in Central and Eastern Kansas rose by 10 to 15 degrees, with a minor dip to the west from 24 hours earlier.
This warmth will be cut short by another burst of cold air. Overnight, temperatures will fall below freezing. Temperatures will struggle to rise much on Thursday, with highs in the 30s and 40s. Elkhart is closer to the source of warm air, and temperatures will reach the 50s. A clear sky will be the norm, with high pressure dominating and sliding by to our north and east.
The wind flow will favor a warmer stretch beginning on Friday. This will last till Sunday. This weekend, the skies in the south and east will appear milky due to upper-level clouds associated with a wet storm shooting to our south.
We may get a few rain showers in Southeast Kansas on Sunday, but a cold front moving from the northwest will keep them away. This cold front will bring highs in the 40s and lower 50s next week on Monday, with more widespread 30s and 40s on Tuesday. Later in the week, temperatures will rise into the 40s and 50s.
There appears to be some moisture available for a few rain and snow showers Monday and Tuesday. The track, time, and amount of moisture still available will be crucial variables to consider. Right now, it does not appear to be a large and impactful system for us, with most of the moisture steered around us.
The storm system will mature, allowing rain and snow to better gel as they leave our area. The next opportunity for moisture following this try may not come until the middle of December.
