A 16-year-old biker was struck and murdered by a sedan driver in Exposition Park on Friday afternoon, possibly due to road rage, according to investigators.
According to authorities, the driver fled the scene following the incident, which occurred soon after 4:30 p.m. in a parking lot at BMO Stadium in a park near downtown Los Angeles.
About 40 bicycles were riding south on Figueroa Street, just north of Martin Luther King Boulevard, when an altercation broke out between the group and the sedan’s driver, California Highway Patrol Sgt.
Dan Keene told reporters on the scene. According to Keene, the motorist followed the group through a fence opening and into the stadium parking lot, where he reportedly struck the victim. The teenage kid died at the site, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.
As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been announced, and there was no description of the driver or vehicle.
Keene said the incident should never have occurred and invited the driver to return and speak with investigators. “No parent should have to go through that,” he told me.
