HARRISON. N.Y. – On Thursday night, a small plane crashed along Interstate 684 in Westchester County, New York, killing one passenger.
According to New York State Police, two individuals were aboard the plane when it crashed at 7 p.m. local time near Harrison. The jet landed in a patchy region between the north and south lanes of the roadway.
The victim’s name was not revealed, and the status of the second passenger on board the plane was not immediately known. There were no reports of any injuries to anyone on the ground.
According to FlightAware, the pilot took off from Linden Airport in New Jersey and was heading to Westchester County Airport, which is around 1.5 miles from the disaster site.
According to FlightAware, the plane is owned by Altisky Leasing One LLC of Smyrna, Tennessee.
According to New York State Police, the roadway is closed northbound at Exit 2 and southbound at Exit 3, with local detours in place. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement that the collision resulted in an aviation gas release, which the state Department of Environmental Conservation was attempting to contain and clean.
She went on: “My heart goes out to the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I am praying for a safe recovery for the injured individual.”
