An incident involving two cars in Southwest Portland Wednesday night killed two individuals and critically injured one, according to investigators.
When they got to the scene near Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard, they “found a two-vehicle crash with at least three patients seriously injured,” according to a PPB release issued Wednesday night.
“Paramedics arrived and transported the injured patients to hospitals,” PPB informed us. “Despite life-saving efforts, one patient died in the hospital.” The remaining two patients’ prognoses are uncertain.
On Wednesday night, portions of Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard were closed due to the crash investigation.
On Thursday night, PPB sent another update stating that one of the other people hospitalized had died, increasing the total number of deaths from the collision to two. They also provided further information regarding what occurred, according to the probe.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a green 1997 Honda Civic 4-door was southbound Barbur Boulevard when he collided with a blue Toyota Sienna van, whose driver was turning left from northbound Barbur Boulevard to Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard,” the Pennsylvania Highway Patrol said in a release Thursday night.
“The driver and front passenger of the Honda, both adult men, died in the hospital. A back passenger in the Civic, an adult guy, sustained significant injuries. The driver of the Sienna sustained no significant injuries.”
Police said the families of the two individuals who died would be notified, and they would then be officially named.
The Portland Police Bureau stated they responded to reports of a crash at 9:21 p.m.
