Winter Storm Hits Montana and Wyoming: 6-9 Inches of Snow Forecasted in Mountains

The first of two storms will pass over Montana and Wyoming from Friday afternoon to Saturday early. Friday was not a particularly warm day, so plenty of chilly air is already in place.

Snow will fall in the mountains, and light rain will transition to snow overnight in the lower elevations. Winter weather advisories are in force for our area’s mountains, with 6-9 inches of snow. The foothills should expect 1-4 inches.

We will have a clear sky from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning, but we will also have more gusty winds to go with our seasonally cold temps. The second of two storms is expected to approach our area on Monday.

It won’t be as cold as the previous storm, but it will still deliver snow to the mountains. Lower elevations will get mostly rain, with clearing as the storm moves through Tuesday.

A ridge of high pressure will form across the Intermountain West during the second half of next week and early the following weekend. We’ll probably enjoy dry weather until at least next Friday, although it won’t be entirely calm.

We can expect gusty winds throughout next week when the jetstream passes across the northern Rockies. Lows will be cold, but highs will rebound above average by late next week.
