WICHITA, Kan – Kansas drivers who take the road Wednesday afternoon or evening should have good overall safety conditions, but they should be cautious due to light snow or rain in numerous spots.
Storm Team 12 radar shows a few pockets of heavier rain in southeast Kansas, while a large expanse of the state is seeing light rain. The reported snowfall was mostly concentrated northwest of Wichita, in Ellsworth, Lincoln, Russell, Ellis, Trego, Pawnee, Lane, and Finney counties.
The Kansas Department of Transportation captured footage on westbound Interstate 70 near WaKeeney that showed some snow adhering to the grass. The precipitation is not expected to create any roadway closures. Earlier Wednesday afternoon, a viewer-submitted video captured snow falling in Colby.
According to Storm Team 12 Meteorologist Peyton Sanders, chilly temperatures will continue on Thanksgiving as dry weather develops and persists. He predicted that lingering rain will leave southern Kansas Wednesday evening and that the skies would clear. With lows in the mid-20s, the temperature could play a role.
Travel conditions should stay fair over the weekend, though temperatures will be lower, with highs only reaching the 40s.
A modest warmup is forecast by mid to late next week, with maximum temperatures returning to the 50s.
Kansas will see a dry weather trend that will last at least a week, with no extra chances of rain or snow.
